The Founding of Alliance Jiu-Jitsu and Its Global Relevance
Alliance Jiu-Jitsu was founded in 1993 by three great masters: Romero “Jacaré” Cavalcanti, Fabio Gurgel, and Alexandre Paiva. With an innovative vision and a commitment to technical excellence, the team quickly stood out as one of the strongest in the world, producing champions and setting a high-performance standard in competitive Jiu-Jitsu.
Romero “Jacaré” Cavalcanti, a direct student of Hélio Gracie and Rolls Gracie, brought with him the knowledge of the Gracie lineage and, together with his students Fabio Gurgel and Alexandre Paiva, structured an efficient and modern teaching system. Since then, Alliance has solidified itself as a global powerhouse, holding the highest number of world titles in the male division, accumulating 14 IBJJF World Championships.
Many great competitors have helped build this legacy, including names like Marcelo Garcia, Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles, Bruno Malfacine, Lucas Lepri, Bernardo Faria, Gabi Garcia, and Lucas Araujo, among many others. Lucas Araujo, a black belt under Alexandre Paiva, has been a standout name within the team, contributing to the growth of Alliance and helping to expand its methodology internationally.
Currently, Lucas Araujo is the owner of the Alliance branch in Key Biscayne, Miami, Florida, where he continues the team’s tradition, developing new talents, and maintaining the high technical level of the academy.
